Hawaii is currently constructing the island’s first light rail public transit system. Triple R was contracted to deliver 80 railcars from the manufacturing facility in California to the rail facility in Honolulu.

In order to save the customer money, Triple R designed specialty railcar trailers which are capable of self-loading and unloading thereby eliminating the need for a crane. The trailers design also allows for the elimination of costly California Highway Patrol escorts.

The scope of the project includes transporting the railcars from the manufacturing facility to the Port of San Diego. In San Diego, the railcars and trailers are loaded to a ship for shipment to Hawaii. Upon arrival in Hawaii, the railcars are loaded to the trailers and then delivered over the road by truck to the rail facility in Honolulu.
